Viva Caffè Monicella
All Caffè Monicella roasts are still hand-roasted in Sicily using traditional methods, giving every batch its distinctive character.
As typical Sicilian coffees, these whole beans carry a slightly darker profile, giving them an intense, robust and spicy character, and the added Robusta content creates the dense crema that defines every cup.
The raw beans are carefully refined into balanced blends over a time-intensive process to bring out the full depth of flavor and aroma, and a long resting period allows the acidity to fade, giving the beans their pleasantly harmonious, low-acid character, true to authentic Italian espresso culture.
Espresso & Caffè Crema
The Caffè Monicella Café Crema is a medium roast with gentle acidity for a smooth, harmonious mouthfeel, wrapped in delicate notes of hazelnut, roasted almonds and a hint of dark chocolate from a blend of 60% Robusta and 40% Arabica beans grown in Central and South America, Africa and Asia.
The Caffè Monicella Espresso combines 80% Robusta with 20% Arabica beans grown at altitudes between 200 and 1800 meters, resulting in a dark roast with an intense taste, mild acidity and a creamy crema, layered with gentle notes of cocoa, hazelnut and toasted bread.
Both blends come into their own in a filter coffee machine, a fully automatic coffee machine, or an espresso machine, and we recommend a moka pot for the Espresso in particular. Either way, this range rewards anyone who loves a rich, full-bodied cup.

What makes Caffè Monicella coffee special?
Caffè Monicella brings Sicilian coffee culture into your cup. The blends are traditionally dark-roasted by hand in a family-run business on Sicily, developing an intense, spicy taste with a full body. The combination of Robusta and Arabica beans creates a dense crema and an espresso experience reminiscent of southern Italian bars.
Which Caffè Monicella coffee works best for espresso?
For a classic espresso from a portafilter machine, the Caffè Monicella Espresso with its high Robusta content is an excellent choice. Its dark roast delivers a bold, creamy body with notes of cocoa, hazelnut and a hint of toasted bread. This blend is built for a rich crema and an authentic Italian espresso experience.
Can I use Caffè Monicella in a fully automatic coffee machine?
Yes, Caffè Monicella beans work beautifully in a fully automatic coffee machine. The Café Crema variety in particular develops its balanced aroma when prepared this way. The beans deliver a full-bodied coffee as well as a bold espresso with a silky crema, perfect for your everyday coffee moment.
What does Sicilian roasting mean for Caffè Monicella?
Sicilian roasting, as Caffè Monicella defines it, means a rather dark roast profile in which the beans are refined slowly. This creates intense roast aromas, a bold body and a dense crema, while acids are deliberately reduced along the way. The result is a harmonious, spicy espresso, just like the ones served in southern Italian bars.
